About Us

The Playwrights Association of New Zealand Inc. was formed in 1958.

The aim of the Association is to foster the writing of plays through Playwriting Seminars, Workshops, Competitions, Play Assessments and newsletters and to foster links between playwright members.

The subscription period is from 1st September to 31 August.

Each member receives a copy of Playwrights News and can have one play assessed annually at no charge.

The Association was set up primarily for New Zealanders.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.  What should I do if my local drama society wants to produce one of my plays?  Can I ask them for a fee?

A.  One of PANZ’s main objectives is ensuring that our members are treated professionally.  We say that if your play is good enough for the drama group to produce and charge an admission, then it is only right that you are paid the regular fee.  It would be professional for you to state this in the first instance, not wait till after the performance is over.
