June Allen’s 10-minute play The Dentist’s Bill, which was placed as one of the finalists in our PANZ competition last year, will be performed in Sydney’s Short+Sweet festival at the end of February. The director is Christian Thornton.
June has recently published an account of life in her hometown, Gisborne, when she was young. It is as much a social history of the era as in part a personal story. The Kiri te Kanawa Retirement Village in Gisborne hosted a wonderful launch party for her in November. If you’re curious to know what capers June got up to as a teenager you’ll read of them in Eastern Capers etc.
