Some of our members are involved in community theatre, writing and producing plays locally with a large part of the proceeds going back to the community.
Jennie Turner writes, “Just finished my second show for the year, 14th to date, but who’s counting. A record turnout, they came from far and wide. 7 shows, $12,000 back into community. ($9,000 Westpac rescue, $2,000 St John and $1,000 fire brigade.) Feeling pretty chuffed about that.”
The Waiheke Playwrights (involving PANZ members Colin Beardon, Christine Beardon, Richard Bull, Christopher Preston, Janet November and Peter November) have just completed their fourth Waiheke Playwrights Festival. It consisted of eight ten-minute plays all written on the island this year and performed by 29 local actors. Opening at Piritahi Marae, it then toured to three community halls. A very successful season with $3,000 raised for community groups.
