The programme will be divided into four half-day sessions; and will also allow plenty of time to mix with other very stimulating writers. It reads (subject to change if necessary):
Sat am: Introduction from the PANZ Vice President followed by a cooperative exercise in extending Kerrie Anne Spicer’s award winning 10 min play, Jilted, into a full length play. We’re indebted to Kerrie for allowing us ‘play about’ with her storyline and characters to see in what direction each of those would take if the idea became a full length play.
Sat afternoon: a panel will spell out just what is expected from playwrights wanting to submit their work for production.
Speakers to include:
Devon Williamson, popular writer for Community Theatre throughout New Zealand;
Diane Connors, director of amateur theatre with small theatre challenges;
Kerry Single, technical expert extraordinaire.
Sat evening: catered
Fancy dress dinner with wine, and a cash bar available.
Sun am: Rehearsed readings of a selection of short plays that have done well in our 2012 competition.
Interference by Colin Beardon,
A Word in Edgeways by Narine Groome,
Amethyst by June Allen
There’s No Business by Denis Edwards.
These will be rehearsed readings performed by members of Te Aroha Dramatic Society.
Sun afternoon: plenary session: groups will discuss the best way to promote their plays, led by those who’ve had successful productions of their own work.
Wind up: The way forward .. writing your play is only ever half the battle, we hope you now have the steps to get your play on stage.
